Class Today
Today in my Discipleship Training class (with President Eyring's son Bro. Eyring) we did a case study on a family where the father suffered from a PSC, a liver disease. He had suffered for almost 30 years and dealt with it rather well till the last year a half. Since January he has lost 50 pounds. His liver has always been afflicted but the real fear is that he will develop cancer soon. If he waits, he'll surely have cancer and once the cancer gets past his liver he can't receive a transplant. He also can't be on the transplant list until his condition is even more severe. The only option if he wants to live is if he receives a live donation from either his wife or eldest son who just got married in August. We talked about the case for about 45 minutes. After that Bro Eyring introduced the guests in the room as the family we were studying. It was incredible as they went to the front of the classroom and talked for the last 45 minutes about their experiences. The mom was finally going to be the donor and a week before the surgery it came back that there were complications and she couldn't do it. It now falls on the son and he is currently getting tested for it. It's hard to explain on a blog post, but it was so amazing how they presented themselves not as a suffering family, but as a family that has overcome their burdens and trials and fears. They still have to go through with the transplant but their faith has overcome everything. The end.
