I'm "blogging" a lot lately, I feel more comfortable if others do it more too. But I had a really cool day the other day.
Brother Eyring used to be involved in management consulting. He was actually one of the top partners, just under the CEO for a major consulting firm in Boston, so he has a lot of experience. I shot him an email over Thanksgiving break saying I wanted to talk to him for a few minutes about internships. I set up an appointment for Tues. He's in the executive offices so I had to check my appointment with the secretary. We went into his office which was very large. I haven't been in an office that size, ever. We sat down and had a really good discussion. He basically said the consulting firms are looking for "intellectual brilliance", majors like the hard sciences or economics, etc. and that my major is looked upon as a weak major. He gave me a lot of different options though. The cool part was at the end of our talk he told me he wanted to send me a copy of his new book over email. He said it's still with Deseret Book right now waiting to be published. He asked me to read what was interesting to me and then send him my suggestions and comments! I really don't know what kind of suggestions he's looking for. But he's always like that, looking for good advice. It was a really motivating interview. I was so impressed that he would take 25 minutes out of his day just to help me out and teach me about consulting.
